Red chili seeds that gets collected at the bottom of the dried red chili jar is used to make this powder. Alternatively, break the dried red chiles to reveal the seeds. The chili seeds are roasted till aromatic and ground into fine powder with cumin seeds. Serve chili seeds powder with idly, dosa etc…
Makes: around half cup of Chili Seeds Powder.
Dried Red Chile Seeds 1/2 Cup
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Method of preparation:
Heat a heavy bottomed pan on medium low heat.
Add cumin seeds and roast them until aromatic or until they change color.
Remove cumin seeds and add dried red chile seeds and roast them until aromatic or until they change color.
Cool the chili seeds and grind them into fine powder along with cumin seeds and salt.
Store tight in a jar and use chili seeds powder as an accompaniment to idly, dosa etc…
Notes: Make sure to roast the chili seeds well.
Suggestions: For red chile seeds, break the dried red chiles and collect the seeds.
Variations: Add whole red chiles for heat.
