Bell Pepper with Roasted Gram

For bell pepper with roasted gram recipe, oil is tempered with cumin seeds and garlic cloves. Bell pepper is chopped and cooked in tempered oil along with chopped onion. Roasted gram is ground into fine powder along with other spices and added to the cooked bell pepper along with grated dried coconut.
Makes: 2 Servings of Bell Pepper with Roasted Gram


Bell Pepper 1 large
Onion 1 Small
Dry Coconut (grated) 1 1/2 tbsps
Roasted Gram / Dalia 1 tbsp
Whole Red Chiles 1 – 2
Cumin Seeds 1 tsp
Garlic 3 Cloves
Curry Leaves 10
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tbsp

Method of preparation:

Wash thoroughly, remove stems, remove inner seeds and chop bell pepper into small pieces.
Peel and chop onion into small cubes.
Grind roasted gram, half of cumin seeds, red chiles and salt into fine powder using a spice blender.
Peel and crush the garlic cloves.

Heat oil in a pan, add half of the cumin seeds, garlic cloves and curry leaves.
When cumin seeds change color, add chopped onion and chopped bell pepper.
Cook covered on medium flame till bell pepper turns soft but not mushy.
Stir occasionally and add a tbsp of water if required during the cooking process.
Uncover, add dry coconut, ground dalia powder and salt if necessary.
Stir well and let it cook for few more seconds before removing from heat.
Serve bell pepper with roasted gram over plain steamed rice and dollop of ghee.
Notes:Make sure bell pepper is cooked right.

Suggestions: If bell pepper is not cooked enough, put it back on heat, add a tbsp of water and cook covered on medium flame till done.
Variations:You can also grind some garlic cloves along with roasted gram.
