Cluster beans or guar beans are annual crop in India. Cluster beans are often cooked like broad beans are cooked. Cluster beans are stringed and chopped into small pieces. Chopped cluster beans are boiled in water till soft and added to tempered oil along with some ground spices. Cluster beans curry is finally finished with a good amount of scraped coconut.

Turmeric Powder a pinch
Salt to taste

Urad Dal 1/4 tsp

Mustard Seeds 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves 15
Broken Red Chiles 3
Oil 1 tsp

Method of preparation:

Remove stems, break and grind the red chillies into fine powder using a spice blender.
Wash thoroughly and string the cluster beans if necessary.
Remove little bit of both ends and chop cluster beans into small pieces.

Heat 3 cups of water in a sauce pot and add in cluster beans and little salt.
Boil till cluster beans are cooked and turn soft but not mushy.
Strain the cluster beans and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When urad dal changes color, add ground red chilli powder, cumin seeds powder and turmeric powder.
Stir for few seconds and add in cluster beans and sufficient salt.
Fry for a minute or two and stir in scraped coconut.
Adjust any seasonings required and remove from heat.
Serve cluster beans with coconut over plain steamed rice or with roti.
Notes: Make sure cluster beans are cooked before removing from boiling water.
