Ingredients:
Plantain / Raw Banana 1
Broken Red Chiles 3 tbsps
Urad Dal 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Asafoetida a big pinch
Turmeric Powder a pinch
Curry Leaves 10
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tbsp
Method of preparation:
Remove ends, halve, remove skin and dice plantain into water bowl to avoid blackening.
Heat oil in a pan, add chopped plantain cubes, asafoetida and salt.
Cook covered on low flame until plantain becomes soft.
Heat a pan, lightly roast urad dal, mustard seeds, dried red chiles and curry leaves.
Cool the roasted ingredients and pound them a little with pestle.
Alternatively, use a spice grinder to lightly pulse the roasted ingredients.
Then slowly add the cooked plantain cubes to the spice bowl and pound everything together to fold all the flavors into mashed plantain.
Serve with steamed rice and a dollop of ghee.
Notes: Make sure plantain cubes are cooked through.
