Eggplant in Sesame Sauce

Brinjal / Small Eggplants 5
Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
Whole Red Chiles 1
Jaggery 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder a pinch
Red Chile Powder 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste


Urad Dal 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
Broken Red Chiles 2
Curry Leaves 3
Oil 1 tsp

Method of preparation:

Wash, remove stems, chop brinjals into 1 inch pieces and soak them in water till needed.
Grind sesame seeds and whole red chile into fine powder using a spice blender.

Heat oil in a pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When mustard seeds start spluttering, add brinjal pieces and fry until they turn soft.
Then add ground sesame seeds powder, jaggery, turmeric powder, red chile powder and salt.
Pour around a cup of water and cook on low flame for 5 – 10 minutes.
Serve hot with rice and dollop of ghee.

Notes: Make sure not to add more water than required.
