Ingredients:
Oil Cake Powder 4 – 6 tbsps
Toor Dal 1 cup
Garlic 8 pods
Green Chiles 6
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Talimpu:
Urad Dal 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1 tsp
Asafoetida a pinch
Curry Leaves few sprigs
Broken Red Chiles 4
Oil 1 tbsp
Method of preparation:
Remove stems, wash and slice green chiles.
Peel and mash the garlic pods.
Wash toor dal in water thoroughly.
In a small sauce pan, cook toor dal in 2 cups of water until just cooked and soft from inside.
Heat oil in a wok, add mashed garlic and all talimpu ingredients in order.
When dal changes color, add green chiles and salt.
Then add cooked toor dal and turmeric powder.
Stir in oil cake powder and cook covered for a minute.
Mix thoroughly and leave until all the moisture is evaporated.
Serve hot with steamed rice and ghee.
Notes: Toor dal needs to be cooked right.
