Broken Wheat Moong Dal Upma

Erra Godhuma Nooka Pesarapappu Upma


Broken Wheat 1 cup
Split Moong Dal 1/2 cup
Carrot 1 small
Ginger 2 inch piece
Green chillies 4
Salt to taste


Cumin Seeds 1 tsp
Black Peppercorns 4
Broken Red Chillies 5
Curry Leaves 5
Oil 1 tbsp

Method of preparation:

Remove stems, wash and chop green chillies finely.
Peel, wash and mince the ginger.
Soak moong dal in water for half an hour.
Wash, peel, remove ends and finely chop carrot.

Heat oil in deep vessel, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When cumin seeds change color, add chopped green chillies, minced ginger and carrot.
Fry for a minute, add 2 cups of water and bring it to a bubble.
Stir in broken wheat, moong dal and salt.
Cook covered on low flame for 5-10 minutes or until the broken wheat is all fluffy and soft.
Serve hot with a dollop of ghee on top.

Notes: Make sure to cook broken wheat right.
