Skinned Whole Urad Dal 2 cups
Sugar 1 1/2 – 2 cups
Pure Ghee 1 cup
Method of preparation:
Heat thick wok on low flame, add urad dal.
Roast the urad dal by stirring continuously until it turns lightly golden brown or until you get the pleasant roasted smell.
Using grain mill, grind the roasted urad dal into somewhat fine powder.
Grind the sugar in a mixer into fine powder.
Heat ghee in a pan and remove from heat before it smokes.
In a mixing bowl, add urad dal powder and powdered sugar.
Slowly add ghee mixing the urad dal sugar mixture thoroughly with a spatula.
Using the hands, roll the mixture into small sized balls.
Add more ghee if necessary.
Store tight and they stay for months.
Notes: Varying the texture of the urad dal powder varies the taste of laddu. You can use food processor to grind urad dal but do it in batches and make sure its equally powdered.
