Toor Dal 2 cups
Green Chiles 3
Turmeric Powder a big pinch
Salt to taste
Urad Dal 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Broken Red Chiles 3
Curry Leaves 4
Asafoetida a pinch
Oil 1 tbsp
Method of preparation:
Wash toor dal with water thoroughly and pressure cook in 4 cups of water for 3 whistles.
Remove outer layers and chop cabbage finely.
Remove stems, wash and slit green chiles into two.
Heat oil in a deep bottomed vessel, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When urad dal changes color, add green chiles, chopped cabbage, turmeric powder and salt.
Cook covered for few minutes or until cabbage is well cooked and soft.
Then add cooked toor dal and a cup of water.
Bring to boil and remove from heat.
Serve with rice or roti.
Notes: Squeeze fresh lemon juice just before serving if you wish.
