Chickpeas Talimpu

Senagala Talimpu


Chickpeas 1 cup
Fresh Coconut (scraped) 2 tbsps
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste


Urad dal 1 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Broken red chillies 5
Curry Leaves 8
Oil 1 tbsp

Method of preparation:

Soak chickpeas overnight and pressure cook in 2 cups of water for 3 whistles.

Heat oil in a pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When dal turns light brown, add chickpeas, turmeric powder and salt.
Mix thoroughly and stir fry for a minute or two.
Remove from heat and add fresh coconut.
Serve with rice or as a snack.

Notes: Alternatively, use canned chickpeas (drain and wash) to speed up the process.
