Chana Dal with Cilantro

Chana Dal 1 cup
Plain Yogurt 3/4 cup
Green Chillies 3
Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
Cilantro few sprigs
Salt to taste


Urad Dal 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida a pinch
Oil 1 tbsp

Method of preparation:

Wash, clean and roughly chop cilantro.
Remove stems, wash and slit green chillies into two.

Cook chana dal along with the green chillies in 6-8 cups of water for about half an hour until the dal becomes soft and keep aside.
Alternatively, pressure cook in 2 cups of water for 2-3 whistles.

Heat oil in a small pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When dal turns light brown, add ginger garlic paste and remove from heat.

Add this talimpu to cooked dal along with turmeric powder, yogurt and cilantro.
Mix thoroughly and serve with rice or roti.

Notes: Make sure some of the chana dal is whole keeping its shape intact.
