Tomato Kadhi

Tomato 4-8 small
Green Chilli 2
Cloves 3
Besan/ Bengal Gram Flour 2 tbsps
Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
Cilantro few sprigs
Salt to taste


Urad Dal 1/4 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves 5
Broken Red Chillies 3
Asafoetida a pinch
Oil 2 tbsps

Method of preparation:

Remove stems, wash and finely chop green chilli.
Wash and roughly chop tomatoes.
Cook the tomatoes in half a cup of water for 10-15 minutes and puree them in a food processor.

Heat oil in a pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When dal turns light brown, add cloves, green chilli, gram flour and turmeric powder.
Stir fry for a minute, add pureed tomatoes and two cups of water (add more to suit your consistency).
Cook on medium flame until the kadhi comes to a boil.
Stir in salt and garnish with cilantro.
Serve with hot rice.

Notes: You can also add jaggery while adding salt to make it little sweet.
