Potato Masala Curry

Bangala Dumpa Kurma


Potato 1 large
Onion 1 large
Green Chillies 4
Turmeric Powder a big pinch
Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
Cilantro 10-15 leaves
Yogurt 1/2 cup
Bay Leaf 1
Salt to taste
Oil 2 tbsps


Ginger 1 inch piece
Garic 4 pods
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Khus Khus 2 tsps
Coconut (grated) 2 tbsps
Coriander Seeds 1 tbsp


Cloves 3
Cardamom 3
Cinnamon 1-2 inch stick

Method of preparation:

Remove stems, wash and slit green chillies into two.
Peel, remove ends, half and slice the onion.
Peel, wash and roughly chop ginger.
Peel. remove hard ends and crush garlic pods.

Grind all the paste ingredients into smooth paste adding little water.
Dry roast the powder ingredients and grind into fine powder in a spice blender.

Wash and half the potato.
Boil water in a pot, add potato halves and salt.
Cook until the potato becomes soft without being mushy.
Once cooled, peel and chop potato halves into roughly small cubes.

Heat oil in a pan, add bay leaf and ground powder.
Then add green chillies, onion, potato cubes and ground masala paste.
Finally add yogurt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and few tbsps of water.
Stir thoroughly and let it come to a bubble.
Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and serve hot with poori, roti, chapati etc…

Notes: Better if yogurt is little sour or add a bit of tamarind.

    Looks good and will try without garlic of my taste and will come back with the comments. I feel if we add some peas it will be tasty i feel.
