Spicy Cabbage with Mustard

Ava Pettina Cabbage Kura


Cabbage 1 small
Green Chillies 2
Turmeric Powder a pinch
Mustard Seeds 2 tsps
Whole Red Chillies 4-6
Salt to taste


Chana Dal 1 tsp
Urad Dal 1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Broken Red Chillies 4
Curry Leaves 5
Oil 1 tbsp

Method of preparation:

Remove the hard stem, few outer skins and finely chop the whole cabbage.
Remove stem, wash and slice green chillies.

Remove stems and break whole red chillies.
Grind the broken red chillies with mustard seeds into fine powder in a spice blender.
Don’t open the lid of the jar until needed.

Heat oil in a pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When chana dal turns golden brown, add sliced green chillies, chopped cabbage, turmeric powder and salt.
Sprinkle few tbsps of water and cook covered on medium flame for a minute or two.
Remove the lid, and let the excess water evaporate.
Remove from heat, sprinkle the mustard seeds chilli powder and mix thoroughly.
Serve hot with rice or pulka.

Notes: Grind mustard seeds and red chili fresh when needed.

    Isn’t there any telugu who will post recipes based on “gongoru”? Gongoru mamsam (gongoru mutton/pork)just tastes great!
