Toor Dal Rasam

Ingredients:

Toor Dal/ Kandi Pappu 1/4 cup
Salt to taste

Talimpu:

Garlic 3 pods
Urad dal 1 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Broken red chillies 3
Curry Leaves 4
Turmeric powder a pinch
Ghee 1 tsp

Method of preparation:

Peel and crush the garlic pods.

Pressure cook toor dal in 2 cups of water for 3 whistles.
When done, mash the cooked toor dal.
Add more water if needed and bring to boil.

Heat ghee, add crushed garlic and all other talimpu ingredients in order.
When dal turns light brown, add this tampering/ talimpu to above boiling toor dal rasam.
Add salt and serve with rice.

Notes: You can even strain little liquid while pressure cooking bulk toor dal to make this rasam.

    where is the imli ( tamarind). Without that how rasam will have its taste ?
    Where is the Rasam Powder ?
    Without that how the taste will be there.
    your recipe is only Dal and not rasam

    @ramya this is my grandma’s spl.
    @mallika must try list! sure it deserves.
    @vish add imli if you are fond of it. i dont even use rasam powder. but even wihtout them rasam tastes awesome.
    Rasam is something thats thinner and which contains the essence of all the ingredients inside it. Toor dal is enough for me 🙂 but dont hesistate to experiment.
