Toor Dal/ Kandi Pappu 1/4 cup
Salt to taste
Garlic 3 pods
Urad dal 1 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Broken red chillies 3
Curry Leaves 4
Turmeric powder a pinch
Ghee 1 tsp
Method of preparation:
Peel and crush the garlic pods.
Pressure cook toor dal in 2 cups of water for 3 whistles.
When done, mash the cooked toor dal.
Add more water if needed and bring to boil.
Heat ghee, add crushed garlic and all other talimpu ingredients in order.
When dal turns light brown, add this tampering/ talimpu to above boiling toor dal rasam.
Add salt and serve with rice.
Notes: You can even strain little liquid while pressure cooking bulk toor dal to make this rasam.
