Ingredients:

Garlic pods 5
Red chillies 4
Roasted bengal gram/ putnala pappu 1/2 cup
Peanuts 1/2 cup
Curry leaves 10
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tbsp
Method of preparation:
Dry roast peanuts and roasted bengal gram seperately.
Dry roast dry red chillies and crush them finely.
In a tsp of oil fry garlic pods for a minute and then add curry leaves.
Mix roasted peanuts, roasted bengal gram, fried garlic, curry leaves and crushed red chillies with fried rice and sufficient salt.
Notes: Vepudu biyyam is made from dry roasting the soaked rice. You can use puffed rice if you don’t have vepudu biyyam.
what exactly is vepudu biyyam? can it be made at home by soaking rice, drying and frying it?
i bought it from india, the process is done inside special mills with sand and stuff. i was experimenting at home, so
vl let u know once it works out. 🙂
From the picture, it seems vepudu biyyam means marmaralu or murilu(as known in some parts of andhra).
Its a guess. And pardon me if i am wrong
it looks like “pori” in Tamil, i mean
maybe, roasted pori with the other ingredients…
@suneetha not mamra or maramaralu. These are not puffed but roasted wet rice.
not pori = mamra = burugulu
either
