Moong dal/ Pesara pappu 1 cup
Green chillies 4
Ginger 1 inch piece
Salt to taste
Garlic pods 2
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Urad dal 1 tsp
Ghee 1 tbsp
Method of preparation:
Wash and cook the dal in pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
You can alternatively boil the dal in 4 cups of water on stove.
Wash, remove ends and slice green chillies into halves.
Peel and finely chop ginger.
In a deep vessel, add cooked moong dal and pour 4 cups of water.
Add sliced green chillies and chopped ginger.
Bring to boil and simmer for 8 minutes.
Heat ghee in small skillet, add crushed garlic.
Saute for few seconds and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and urad dal.
When seeds start to splutter, remove from heat and add this to above moong dal rasam.
Serve hot with rice.
Notes: Squeeze a bit of lemon when rasam is served with rice.
